The Scientific Library is one of the leading information units in the system of the Ukrainian Academy of Agrarian Sciences, performing the function of scientific and information support for scientific research in the field of veterinary medicine.
The collection of the scientific library of the NSC "IECVM" is unique in its completeness and universal in its content of domestic and foreign publications (from the 18th to the 21st centuries) on the problems of veterinary medicine, agriculture and related industries in 25 languages of the world, the volume of which today exceeds 170 thousand storage units.
Information is provided in the form of domestic and foreign books, magazines, newspapers, collections of scientific works, CD-ROMs, as well as through access to databases, both external and of our own generation.
Areas of scientific research:
- Study of issues of informatics and library science in the field of veterinary medicine, namely:
• information and analytical
• information and patent
• information management and marketing
• research into the history of agricultural science
The issues of modern scientific research in these areas are formed at the junction of the humanitarian (document and information), natural sciences (veterinary, biological, agricultural) and computer branches
The Scientific Library of the NSC "IECVM" carries out:
- search for documents in the NSC NSC "IECVM" fund: by card catalogs and card files, by bibliographic indexes and abstract journals, in databases of its own generation;
- search for documents missing from the NSC NSC "IECVM" fund
- ensuring user access to the library fund and Internet resources
- selective dissemination of information (bibliographic and abstract) based on ongoing user requests
- consultations and internships in librarianship, bibliography, modern information technologies
- systematization of documents for users by UDC
- thematic search for information in foreign and domestic databases
- compilation and editing of bibliographic indexes (lists) by thematic order of the user
- selection of thematic, bibliographic, factual, clarifying references on veterinary medicine issues
- organization of information and mass events (information days, specialist days; thematic, anniversary exhibitions of literature)
- consulting activities on modern forms of work with information, both bibliographic and electronic
Areas of expertise: library science, bibliographic science, document science and information activities; history of science and technology of Ukraine.
